10/19/24 Uvula Luka, Peljesac Peninsula, Croatia The rain and wind returned in the early morning making it easy to sleep in. About 0900 the skies were clearing, and the wind was down so we thought we would go for a walk. As we were preparing to go Suzette noticed the Police (Policija) boat heading our way. We watched him stop at the German flagged boat next to us and retrieve his papers for inspection. Knowing we would be next I gathered my papers, through my bathing suit on and a tee shirt while Suzette made the bed (in case they boarded she wanted to be ship shape). They did approach and request our papers, we handed them our documents and waited. They reappeared and deck and indicated we had a “small problem”; we never registered our persons upon entry to Croatia. We told him that we did not understand what he meant by Register. He explained that we were supposed to Register within two days of entering Croatia. He explained that he would have to fine us, and we would need t...

10/12/24 Korcula, Korcula Otok, Croatia Crystal clear sunny morning, even the water was crystal clear. I think the rain has put a lot of sediment in the water so that we are not getting the famously clear Croatian waters. We gathered up a few shopping bags and headed to the grocer to stock up. First stop was the Studenac by the marina, mostly dry goods. Next the Konzum for vegetables and a few other odds and ends for the pantry. With about 3 weeks left on the boat we did not want to get carried away. We stowed the groceries and had lunch. Our charter boat neighbors had all moved on to their next destination leaving us alone on the quay. Delving back into the old town we systematically walked all of the narrow streets to see what we could discover. A number of shops and restaurants appeared to have shuttered for the season, but most remained open. There was a colorful shop that caught our eye and lured us in. They sold only crayons, not the Crayola of your youth, but uniquely s...

10/4/24 Split, Croatia Up at 0500 with high wind as predicted, but no rain, thunder or lightning. It appears that it passed to the south of us. A little more sleep and all was settled by 0830. We headed back into town to learn more about Split and Croatia. We took the tour of the Dioclanatian Palace and learned a lot about this region’s ancient history, Turks attacking and taking slaves, the Ottoman’s attacking to take more land and on into very recent history where the region was broken into so many countries. Also interesting was the famous Croatian writer Marko Maulic from the 15 th century. An academic of philosophy and credited with coining the term psychology. He was prolific in his writings in the Renaissance Age. A copy of his book on the Protestant religion was found among Henry VIII’s belongings with notes in the margins and underlines in the section on what makes a good wife. The west basement This is a work in progress as they continue to remove the ruble Model of the pa...
